My story

Hi, my name is Sergey Dmitriev.

I am 37 years old regular guy with 3 kids at home and a beautiful wife. Yes, kids do drive me crazy from time to time 🙂 and yes, I love them beyond all limits.

I´ve been born in Russia beyond the Polar Circle in the city of Murmansk. Got into college, which at that time offered the only computer related studies in the city. Graduated Magna cum Laude and continued to get my (another Magna cum Laude) Master degree in Math and Computer Science at the Murmansk State Pedagogical University, so I am a teacher by education.

Have started to work when I was 15 and moved out of my parents home at the age of 17. My first job was a network and computer engineer back in 1991. Have been doing programming (hey, I can remember the punched cards, processor room and memory room, when the computers were really big and bug was physically crawling on the circuit boards, hehe).

Moved to Norway where I´ve been building a web-based monitoring system for fishing industry, which later became barentsnews.com, a company that I started and run for a number of years and sold it.

Then it was time as tech responsible at Norwegian at that time largest search engine kvasir.no and after that as CTO of online classifieds website zett.no.

Through all these years I have been delivering solutions and software, pretty early I started to dig for the keys of successful delivery. This brought me to acquiring PMI PMP (Project Management Professional) certification. I have been working (successfully and not so much) as Project Manager on quite large projects with project organizations of over 100 people.

Then the first beam of agile light touched me in 2004. In form of one of the videos about agile development, incremental delivery, value and all that stuff. Since then, I could not get enough. I started implementing Scram straight away in every organization I was working for ever since.

Today I work as Business Agility Coach and a Certified Scrum Trainer in another company that I have founded a business coaching company named Unusual Concepts where I am together with my colleagues from all over the world help businesses delight their customers faster and deliver great products and services that users love to use.

I have been working as a Scrum Master, Scrum Product Owner, I have been teaching people agile, developers and managers, working on organizational transformations to become more agile.
